ABOUT THE EVENING… Two North American masters of the infectious Brazilian music choro will come together for the first time in Woods Hole, MA to musically converse for a couple of hours. Non-amplified concert in a beautiful private home with snacks and adult beverages.

ABOUT CATHERINE… Constantly challenging boundaries, cellist Catherine Bent has never conformed to a single category. Adventurous and adept in multiple genres, Catherine’s performing career hovered on the margins of classical music and jazz as she patiently uncovered her unique voice.

Of infinite interest to Catherine is the relationship of phrase—music carried on the breath—and groove—music felt in the body. In her creative projects and collaborations, she and her colleagues mix elements of jazz and Latin music with dynamic ensemble interplay and tight arrangements. When the music calls for it, the playing is highly refined; at other times exploratory and free.

In her first full-length solo release, Ideal (2018), each of her ten compositions pays tribute to a distinct Brazilian musical tradition. Choro is at the heart of the album, flanked by its cousins samba, forró, frevo, maracatú and xote; all enriched by the unique sonority of Catherine's cello and fed through the prism of her imagination. Her latest album release is Landscapes (2019), with the Macayú Trio, and she anticipates a 2020 release of her second album with trans-continental duo Elis and Catherine. www.catherinebent.com www.elisandcatherine.com www.macayutrio.com
