Creating Mandolin Solos & Fills With The Movable Pentatonic Shape
Instructor: Tim Connell
The pentatonic scale is a great starting point for learning to play solos and other improvised material across all genres of music. The pentatonic scale is likely already familiar to you as the melody for Amazing Grace, Will the Circle Be Unbroken and David Grisman’s “E.M.D.” among many others. The famous bluegrass (Lester) “Flatt guitar run” is also a simple pentatonic scale in ascending order.
In this workshop, Tim will teach a movable 3-string shape for the pentatonic scale. Students will learn several key licks in this shape and then they’ll practice moving the shape (and licks) from key to key, and in several different styles of music including blues, country, jazz, bluegrass and rock.
This class is open to the entire world via the Zoom teleconferencing app.
The $50 fee includes access to printed materials and slow demonstration videos, which you will receive shortly after registering for the class here.
